From strength to strengthLinda Harvey started as a singer in a local group, but since then she's gone from strength to strength. Now she's big star and travels all over the world.

My comments:

It means that Linda has been better and better – more successful than before.

How about from weakness to weakness?

Know what I mean?

Linda used to be a local star. Now she travels all over the globe as an internationally recognized singer. To be a local star is no mean feat. Therefore it was a strong point (strength), great achievement. To be an international star today is another strong point (strength), only bigger.

Therefore to go from strength to strength is to get even better than before, i.e. stronger and more successful.

From strength to strength reminds us of another common phrase which is from victory to victory.
